All over the world, house prices have risen dramatically and Spain is no exception, with prices doubling over the last four years. This has had a spectacular effect on all those planning to retire here or just simply start a new life. There have always been considerable risks financially and this has made it even harder to make that final decision.
People on holiday here, have thought “what a wonderful place to live” and it certainly is but trying to handle difficult situations with the language can be hard. There is a big difference when trying to register with your local doctor or dentist, explaining your favourite cut of meat, or even getting the right fuel in your car. It can be funny to start with but six months down the line and you still have no more than “Hola” and “Buenas Dias” in your vocabulary, you will be getting increasingly homesick every day. Huge financial losses can happen if you have not planned your integration into the Spanish life very well. This is why caravans have become the better proposition for starting your new life here. With the initial costs so low, even if you gave it away there would not be the same loss as a house purchase and no solicitor and estate agent fees to contend with during the buying and selling process. Buying a caravan is like buying a car in England— just a little paperwork once the decision is made.
The selection we have, is large caravans set up permanently on complexes usually with a high ratio of English residents. Do not confuse these with those little 15 footers on camp sites that can be driven 250 miles for a holiday. These are BIG and are set up for every day living. They have extensions fitted to them which have ceramic tiled floors, fitted kitchens, and are usually fully furnished with sofas, chairs and dining room furniture. Plumbed in sink units, automatic washing machines, mains toilets, and showers are in most units. The facilities of the complexes vary, but the majority have clubs, bars, restaurants, swimming pools, supermarkets and shower blocks within their own areas and most pipe in satellite English, TV to the plots.
Where you can compare the prices of units individually, you cannot compare the total price because of differences in the sites. They are the higher price because of where they are sited. As in England it is all down to location — location — location. Log onto some of the links of various complexes we have set up , to see the varying facilities, and speak to the owners and agents for a proper view of these major differences in standards.
The size of a caravan including the awning is often larger than the average mobile home and has a layout that you can choose and design to your own colours, and put in your own furniture just like in a normal house. The outside area where you will spend most of your time, has usually a tiled patio with your own car park space and most have hedges, shrubs, gardens and plant pots to make these little houses into a real home.
